A connected set of services
The ICRC’s May 2023 account describes solar panels at the El Cruce and El Chocó outpatient centres alongside rehabilitation of water supply and storage. These were connected interventions in specific facilities. The article does not provide a general efficiency rating for solar-powered water systems.[1]
The work continues after installation
Its account of Machiques hospital includes rehabilitation of water storage and distribution during 2021–2022, followed by maintenance, leak correction and technical training. A separate ICRC article on 2022 water activities also explains the role of local teams in operating and maintaining rehabilitated systems.[1][2]
Ask operational questions early
For a professional water brief, list the available electrical supply, the storage arrangement and the person responsible for maintenance. Ask what happens when one part is unavailable. Record the answer as a condition to investigate, rather than assuming that a single new component will resolve the whole system.[1]
Separate examples from specifications
A humanitarian case study describes work in its own setting. It cannot supply the missing technical sheet for a different piece of equipment, or confirm the present condition of the facilities mentioned. Keep project history, current site information and manufacturer documentation in separate parts of the decision file.[1][2]
The key to reading it
Equipment, infrastructure and maintenance are connected. Document that relationship locally instead of transferring a case study’s results to another installation.
